MMA Secretary General and Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman has said that Afghan President Hamid Karzai had telephoned him and during talks he also sought his co-operation to control violence and insurgency in Afghanistan.
In an interview with BBC, the Maulana said: "I made it clear to the Afghan president that I have still sympathy with the Afghan government and its people like the past", adding: "I want a peaceful Islamic, democratic, and developed Afghanistan. I will take any decision about it after meeting of central Shura of JUI."
To a question, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman said that North Waziristan is an internal issue of Pakistan, adding: "We can play some role in resolving any issues in our country. We contacted the JUI members in North Waziristan and other tribal elders for the signing of the peace agreement."
To another question, he said that Afghan situation is different where resistance movement of Taliban is going on at the moment.
He said that he has no contact with the Taliban leadership after the fall of Taliban regime. The Afghanistan issue is different and complicated from that of North Waziristan conflict, he added.
