Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that more than 200 police patrolling posts have been made operational in the province due to which crime rate on highways in rural areas had substantially declined.
He further said that tracking system was being installed in the patrolling post vehicles, which would help make immediate contact with these vehicles as well as ensuring their proper use.
He expressed these views, while presiding over a meeting that evaluated the performance of police patrolling posts, here on Monday, disclosed an official.
Punjab Chief Secretary Salman Siddique, Chairman Planning and Development, Suleman Ghani, Inspector General Police Punjab, Zia-ul-Hassan Khan, Secretary Finance, Azmat Ali Ranjha, Chairman Punjab Information Technology Board, Rizwan Amin Sheikh, DIG Patrolling, Tariq Saleem Dogar, DG Monitoring Patrolling Posts, Khalid Bashir Cheema and other senior officers were also present in the meeting.
Elahi maintained that the system of highways patrolling posts was proving very effective in controlling crimes and providing a sense of security to the citizens. He directed that complete map of the respective area be displayed in the police patrolling posts.
Due to the active role of police patrolling posts, hundreds of absconders and proclaimed offenders had been arrested, he said, adding, project management unit was playing a significant role in further improving the efficacy of police patrolling system. "The staff of patrolling posts have been trained on modern lines and besides modern weapons, wireless system has also been provided so that they could cope with any situation with confidence". Punjab Information Technology Board was computerising the entire system of police patrolling posts in the province, which would help in monitoring crimes.
