The Ministry of Commerce has authorised Pakistan Horticulture Development and Export Board (PHDEB) to issue no-objection certificate (NOC) for the export consignments for fulfilling customs formalities.
According to PHDEB, the step has been taken to pre-empt the possibility of quality deterioration, as 100 percent examination of fresh fruit export consignments was time consuming and caused damage to produce and deteriorated its quality, adversely affecting its marketability in foreign lands.
The government has mandated PHDEB for verifying exporters' credentials and issuing NOC for the consignments so that they could skip rigorous checking of Customs department and maintain export quality.
A board's representative said that the NOC would help exporters keep the quality of their exports and strengthen their present market niche abroad and create new ones.
Customers in most of the foreign markets were extremely quality conscious and the customs procedures were compromising the quality and fiscal promise of the fruit. It was for this reason, the board had to intervene and secure the facility for exporters, he added. He hoped the exporters would fully utilise the potential benefit of the facility and bring home maximum foreign exchange for bridging the trade gap.
