The Higher Education Commission (HEC) will establish 20 more Quality Enhancement Cells (QECs) at public sector universities in furtherance of the programme for introduction of modern quality assurance practices in the higher education institutions.
According to a press note issued here on Tuesday, in this regard a project had been approved in HEC's Departmental Development Working Party (DDWP) meeting held recently at HEC Secretariat here. The HEC's Quality Assurance Agency (QAA) was responsible for designing and monitoring of quality assurance programmes in institutions of higher learning across the country.
The purpose of this initiative was to build the capacity of higher education institutions to meet the rising global challenges of quality assurance, which would result in improved levels of international compatibility and competitiveness of our graduates.
The HEC's QAA provides practical quality assurance guidelines in cross cutting areas of higher learning. It also gives guidelines for the establishment of QECs at all universities with a special focus on quality of higher education.
HEC had successfully launched 10 QECs in public sector universities under the QAA.
Enhancement in quality will result in improved employment prospects of graduates from universities where Quality Assurance Programme had been implemented.
The programme was expected to benefit all stakeholders in the higher education sector like students, faculty members, administrators and policy makers as enhanced levels of quality in higher learning will provide support to foster development in other sectors of the economy like industry, agriculture, trade and commerce.
