US cocoa futures ended down Friday after trending higher to breach $1,500 a tonne as players tried to narrow the gap between forward months and the benchmark contract which was approaching delivery.
Futures volume on the New York Board of Trade rose to an estimated 15,597 lots from Thursday's official tally of 12,527 lots. NYBOT cocoa for December delivery closed down $6 at $1,484 a tonne, near the bottom of a $1,504-$1,478 range. The market last breached $1,500 on September 28.
