The Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) has finalised a plan to install a 35MW power generation plant at Dhabeji pumping station at a cost of $37.216 million on Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis.
An official informed, the KWSB had called a tender for installation of power generation plant at its biggest pumping station at Dhabeji on BOT basis. Three companies submitted bids for the project.
A US company, Energy Saving Solution, had finally been declared preferred bidder by the KW&SB as the company had fulfilled all technical and financial requirements of the project. A consultant, Nespak, appointed by the KW&SB scrutinised the bidder documents.
Later, the company had made a consortium with a Chinese company, CIPPRC, he said and added that an MoU had also been signed between the company and KW&SB. According to the details, the company would bear all expenses of the project through 100 percent foreign investment.
After the installation of the plant, the company will operate it and will supply 35MW electricity to the KWSB on agreed rates for 25 years. Thereafter, the plant will be handed over to the KW&SB. As such Rs1 cost difference on per kWh will help KW&SB save minimum Rs 245 million annually," official said.
