A lady resident of Nazimabad, aged 24 years, found dengue positive was notified dead at Aga Khan University Hospital - bringing total dengue deaths in Karachi to 29 till Saturday. Dr Abdul Majid, focal person, Sindh VHF-Dengue Surveillance Committee, told APP that the lady admitted to AKUH on October 31 died on Thursday night.
The fatality was reported to the Committee on Saturday and duly announced, he said mentioning that death toll has come to 32 in Sindh, with the latest reported fatality. The number of total VHF suspected rose to 2,583 in Sindh since June this year while lab confirmed dengue cases surged to 877 across the province till Saturday.
Dr Majid said that 315 VHF patients are, at present, admitted to different hospitals, including 91 new cases on Saturday. He said 139 patients were discharged after recovery during last 24 from different hospitals of Karachi, Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana and Mirpurkhas districts.
To a question, he said Karachi being the most hit city registered 2,551 suspected VHF cases during last few months, 304 are still admitted, 85 were hospitalised on Saturday and 134 discharged. A total of 866 were found dengue positive in the city after necessary laboratory confirmation, he said.
