A special symposium is being organised by the World Psychiatric Association (WPA), zone-l5, in collaboration with the South Asian Forum on Psychiatry & Mental Health, Pakistan Psychiatric Society, South Asian Division of Royal College of Psychiatry & Saarc Psychiatric Federation, here at Fountain house on Sunday.
Eminent mental health experts, who have contributed during earthquake disaster, will attend the seminar. Professor Abdul Malik, Professor Khalid A. Mufti, Professor Farid Aslam Minhas, Dr Rizwan Taj, Dr Azizur Rehman and Dr Khawaja Hamid Rashid will share their views on the subject at the seminar.
Dr Zahid Imran and Ms Farhana Swati from USA will represent Humanity Hope Organisation Inc, an international NGO based in USA and in Pakistan after earthquake.
The main objective of this symposium is to bring all those people together, who had worked for the earthquake victims, to review and discuss we have done so far for addressing psychological and psychosocial issues during the post-earthquake period. It will be the first symposium at such a large scale after one year of the earthquake.
MNA Farazeen Sarfraz will be the chief guest while Saba Sadiq, Social Welfare Department chairperson will be the special guest. Professor I.A.K. Tareen will chair the session and the co-chairpersons will be Professor Khalida Tareen, Professor Ijaz Haider and Professor Sharif Chaudhry.
Professor Haroon Rashid Chaudhry, zonal representative of World Psychiatric Association (WPA-Zone 15) and WPA task force on Kashmir earthquake chairman will give the address of welcome. Dr Afzal Javed will give an overview on international collaboration.
