Indus River System Authority (Irsa) has increased water share of Punjab and Sindh for cultivation of Rabi crop, sources said. The sources said that decision to this effect was taken on the request of the two provinces.
Punjab would get 25,000-cusec water and Sindh 5,000-cusec water for the Rabi crop. Sindh and Punjab would now receive total 40,000 cusec and 65,000 cusec water respectively. The water would be provided to these provinces from November 15-20. After this, they would receive their allocated share of water.
It may be recalled that the Irsa advisory committee has declared 14 percent shortage of water for the Rabi crop and the provinces are adjusting with the situation by closing and opening canals.
