The government has decided to celebrate the birthday of national poet and philosopher Allama Iqbal as "Iqbal Day," falling on Thursday (November 9) and has declared it a public holiday.
According to a press release issued here, the day would be celebrated as "Iqbal Day" and special ceremonies would be held on government level on November 9 and there would be public holiday on the day. Radio Pakistan and Pakistan Television would broadcast and telecast special programmes on life and philosophies of Iqbal.
National flag will be hoisted at important public buildings. A ceremonial change of guards will be held at Mazar-e-Iqbal followed by laying of l wreath and offering of Fateha in the morning.
A book exhibition would also be organised in Iqbal Museum Lahore, National Museum Karachi and Iqbal Manzar Sialkot. Iqbal Week would be celebrated in Pakistan Arts Council and Lok Mela would be organised in National Heritage Islamabad. Special documentary films regarding Iqbal's life would also be telecast in different cinemas.
