Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarians Senior Vice Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim and Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) parliamentary leader Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on Monday wrote to the National Assembly's speaker for the issuance of production order of detained PML leader MNA Makhdoom Javed Hashmi for the upcoming session.
In the letter submitted to Speaker Chaudhry Amir Hussain's office, opposition leaders contended that the NA session had been summoned from November 10, therefore, it is requested that Makhdoom's production order should be issued, enabling him to represent his constituency in the House. PML leader was elected from NA-123, Multan.
This initiative comes on the heels of the Supreme Court ruling, directing the government to produce all the relevant records, as a petition was filed recently in this connection by Hashmi's daughter MNA Maimoona Hashmi. In the petition, she contended that it was her father's right to cast his vote in the mid-term polls for the Senate's seats early this year.
PPPP and PML leader said the president of Alliance for Restoration of Democracy and acting president of his own party was being detained in Kot Lakhpat prison, Lahore, saying it is his right and the speaker's jurisdiction to ensure his presence in the House.
Opposition leaders, from time to time, have been writing to the speaker and also raising the issue on the floor of the assembly, but the speaker has so far not responded positively thereon.
Since the present assembly came into being on November 16, 2002, the speaker on a number of occasions issued production order of another PML Lawmaker Khawaja Saad Rafique. PML leader detained after he distributed copies of a letter, which he said was written by some low-ranked military personnel to the opposition leaders in 2003.
