Road infrastructure in Keamari Town is in dilapidated condition, causing serious problems to general public, it is learnt. It has been witnessed that many roads in the town are. Since the recent monsoon rains, the road infrastructure in the town has started deteriorating on a gradual basis.
Residents of the locality have demanded of City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal for getting the roads reconstructed by the Keamari Town Nazim, who is, according to them, overlooking the arising civic problems in the town.
People are struggling to get their problems resolved, including potable water supply, roads reconstruction, and improvement of sewerage system all over the town, but neither town administration nor respective union nazims and councillors have so far taken steps toward problems resolutions, a resident said.
It has also been observed that Jungle Shah College Road, road at Kamela Chowk, Qasim Shah Road, Farooq-e-Azam Masjid Road etc are in bad conditions and need a brisk action for their reconstruction from the town administration and other concerned authorities.
People dig roads on a regular basis for getting water, gas and telephone connections and left them dug up after getting their job done, which has never been noticed by the town administration, which is the one of the main reasons behind the road deterioration, a local resident said.
On being contacted Keamari Town Nazim Hymaiun Khan said that development projects had been chalked out for entire Keamari Town and work on them would soon be initiated.
Regarding reconstruction of Jungle Shah College Road he said "it had been on halt for the last many days due to the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) had put a cable on it, which needed to be shifted from there and in this regard he had written several letters to the KPT administration to remove it from the road surface". "The cable has hindered construction of the road and as soon as it is shifted to road sides the construction work will be initiated," he added.
Dispelling the impression, he said Rs 50 million had been allocated only for the development of water and sewerage system in the town while road reconstruction had not been included in it.
Hymaiun apprised that new water and sewerage projects had been initiated in the town and soon town residents would enjoy potable water and sewerage facilities.
About the Rs 9.5 million disbursement to union councillors and nazims for union council (UC) development, he said it had just been announced last week by the City Nazim and yet it had to be decided whether respective towns' or city government's engineers would undertake the projects.
