PPP Punjab Secretary Information, Dr Farzana Raja urged parliamentarians to tender their resignations from the platform of Combined opposition, saying the resignations by only ARD members would be meaningless.
Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, she said the anti-Musharraf movement was not on the PPP agenda at the moment, as its entire focus was on forthcoming general elections and preparations for return of party chairperson to the country. The PPP would join such movement, if a decision to this effect was taken at the ARD level, she added.
She said both the issues, preparations for the forthcoming elections and return of Benazir Bhutto to the country, were the prime focus of her party at the moment. Begum Nasim Chaudhry, MNA, former federal law minister Malik Mukhtar Ahmed Awan, Khurshid Ahmed Khan, Khawaja Rizwan Alam, M Salim Raja and Mirza Nazir Baig were also present.
She said lists of probable candidates were being prepared and strategy was being devised how to stop the regime from rigging the next polls. She made it clear that any decision to launch anti-Musharraf campaign before the next general elections would be taken at the ARD level.
Talking about women protection bill, she said despite reservations, the PPP would support the bill as recommended by the select committee of the House. The PPP leader believes that MMA members would never submit resignations from assemblies if the bill was passed against their wishes.
