Liquefied Petroleum Gas Distributors Association Pakistan has warned that the LPG distributors would go on strike if their demands are not accepted. Association Chairman Muhammad Irfan Khokhar told newsmen at a press conference, here on Tuesday.
Khokhar held the LPG producers and marketing companies responsible for LPG price hike, which has become beyond the reach of the common man. "In the last six months the LPG price has escalated, hence its consumption has dropped by 30 percent," he added.
The Association demanded that the LPG producers reverse the prices and set it at Rs 17,000 per metric ton. Among the other demands included: a judicial inquiry against those companies that were selling local LPG with a false claim of being imported. Moreover, in order to meet the demand of LPG and stabilise its prices, taxes on import of LPG should come down to zero with immediate effect. A margin of 15 percent for retailers should be fixed and subsidy should be given on domestic consumption, on the pattern of India.
