Balochistan government and Gwadar Marine International (GMI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Tuesday to promote fishing sector in Balochistan and export of fish from Gwadar and Pasni to Europe. The MoU was signed here at the Governor House in a simple ceremony in the presence of Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani.
Director General Balochistan Coastal Development Authority Mohammad Azam Pathan signed the MoU on behalf of the Balochistan government and Chief Executive GMI Sibtain Qureshi on behalf of his company while provincial secretary fisheries Abdul Salam Khan and Victor of GMI signed the MoU as witnesses.
Balochistan Governor, while lauding the agreement, termed it an example of public-private partnership and said it would not only earn huge revenue and foreign exchange for the country through export of fish to Europe, but also prove helpful to persuade international investors to make investment in Balochistan.
Under the MoU, GMI would provide latest facilities of fishing in Balochistan and train the local fishermen to adopt modern techniques. It would also export fish from Gwadar and Pasni to Europe, thus providing the local fishermen an access to European markets.
The Government in return would grant license to GMI and provide it with infrastructure facilities. Under the agreement, 25 percent of the profit would go to the provincial government while local people would also be given jobs on priority basis in the project.
