The Consumer Protection Council, Helpline Trust on Tuesday informed the citizens that used and rusted tins are washed, repaired, relabelled and packed with substandard, adulterated and unhygienic cooking oils by unscrupulous manufacturers can be very harmful and dangerous for the unsuspecting consumers and their families.
These products are being sold without fear of punishments in weekly bazaars and many markets throughout the country, especially in rural areas, said a statement on Tuesday. According to a recent survey, almost 60 percent of consumer products in the markets are substandard, adulterated or counterfeit, it said.
Utility Pakwan and Utility Banaspati cooking oils, which have been declared unfit for human consumption by Quality Control Centre (PSQCA), are still being sold at the utility store outlets.
