The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has planned to construct three underpasses between IJ Principal road and Khyaban-e-Iqbal to facilitate free flow of traffic on 9th Avenue.
Sources told Business Recorder on Tuesday that PC-I of the project costing over Rs 720 million has been prepared and it would be presented in the next meeting of CDA Development Working Party (CDADWP).
The underpasses will link I-8/I-9, H-8/H-9 and G-8, G-9 sectors. The length of each underpass is 27 meters, height 15 feet and lances of underpasses is three plus three in each side.
The 9th Avenue project was undertaken last year. The composite PC-I of the project costing Rs 374.936 million has since been approved by the CDA Development Working Party. The project has been split into two phases. Phase one of the project is between IJ Principal Road to Kashmir Highway, whereas phase-II falls between Service Road (South) G-8 to Khayaban-e-Iqbal.
Presently, the North-South and South-North bound traffic between IJ Principal Road and Kashmir Highway is managed through sectoral service roads of H-8/H-9, I-8/I-9, G-8/G-9 and F-8/F-9. A Major part of the traffic on this stretch comprises of heavy inter-provincial traffic transporting goods and various construction materials, hence not only the volume but the load of the traffic on the service roads particularly that of sector H-9/ I-9 have increased manifold over the recent years.
And this has changed the very purpose and character of the service roads thus becoming cause of pollution and great inconvenience to the residents of these sectors.
