Karachi City Nazim Mustafa Kamal said here on Saturday that the Korangi industrial area would be made a modern industrial estate of the city and, for this purpose, a huge development program, worth Rs 8 billion had been started for uplift of roads network, laying of sewerage system and water supply lines.
He was talking to a delegation of Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (Kati). He said that construction work on roads would be completed soon.
Repair work of Jam Sadiq Ali Bridge had been initiated at a cost of Rs 25 million. The sewerage system is being laid, as per needs of the industries, on modern lines, which would be sufficient for next 30 years.
He said that a summary for allotment of land for construction of a mosque in the industrial area had already been forwarded to the chief minister for approval.
Kati Chairman Masood Naqi urged the City Nazim to issue orders for removal of encroachments from the area between the Singer Roundabout and Murtaza Roundabout, which is hampering the flow of traffic. He stressed the need of preparing G I S map of utilities of Korangi industrial area, and assured the Nazim of full co-operation of the association.
He also drew the attention of City Nazim towards the dilapidated condition of internal roads and streets of different sectors of the area and said that criminals, by taking advantage of poor conditions of roads, had increased their activities in the area. Consequently, the street crimes were increasing in Korangi industrial area.-PR
