The United Nations has given technical approval for the first-ever 15 million dollar Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) project in Pakistan, says an official release issued here on Saturday. The CDM is being installed by Pak-Arab Fertilisers Private Limited (PFL) Multan at its plant with the collaboration of Mitsubishi Corporation Japan.
CDM project will treat industrial emissions for their release into the atmosphere to reduce or slow down global warming phenomenon. "It shall abate Nitrous Oxide Gas at the factory's Nitric Acid plant in accordance with Kyoto Protocol, a global treaty to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change," the release said.
Overall, this project will have positive effect on environment as Nitrous Oxide shall be converted into Nitrogen and Oxygen by catalytically reduction before venting to atmosphere.
