The British Council held a workshop for educational counsellors here the other day, says a press release on Saturday. The workshop participants were welcomed by Jo Bakowski, Deputy Director of British Council in Pakistan.
The participants included institutional heads and education counsellors representing 25 different institutions from Islamabad and Peshawar regions. The first session on education counselling was conducted by Dr Farah Qadir, who has extensive experience in clinical psychology in the US and has recently returned from the UK after completing her Ph D in Psychology from Kings College, London.
Dr David L Gosling, Principal of Edward College, Peshawar, who is also a lifetime member of Cambridge faculty, compared teaching methodologies in Cambridge and South Asia.
Dean Gonsalves, International Officer of Queen Mary University of London, talked about opportunities for undergraduate students in the UK and how to ensure that counsellors are able to effectively guide students in making the right choices.
Saima Asghar, Pakistan and Bangladesh representative of the University of Warwick, made a presentation on appropriate 'A-level' subject choices for students.
The British High Commissioner was represented by Derek Pond, who explained British High Commission's student visa policy and held a question-answer session.
The British Council briefed participants on the Student Select Scheme--a visa facilitation scheme, jointly run by the British Council and the British High Commission. The workshop ended with certificate distribution ceremony.-PR
