Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Sunday emphasised the need for making poverty a history. He was talking to Nobel laureate Professor Muhammad Yunus, who called on him here, on Sunday, on the sidelines of global micro-credit summit.
The Prime Minister said with a view to achieve the objective of poverty eradication, a lot of work has to be done. He said micro-credit is a way to give people opportunity, voice and empowerment but pointed out that there are a lot of challenges in this way.
He said his presence at the summit here in Halifax, speaks of Pakistan's firm resolve to pursue the approach of taking more and more people out of poverty.
Dr Muhammad Yunus lauded the legal framework provided by Pakistan for micro-financing and for taking 13 million people out of poverty line in just four years.
The Prime Minister invited the Bangladeshi Nobel laureate to visit Pakistan, saying it was also a pride for Pakistan, South Asia and the Muslim Ummah that he got the noble prize in recognition of his efforts to eradicate poverty.
Shaukat Aziz said in the campaign of poverty eradication Pakistan is with other countries. He said: "Based on best practices together we will take this campaign forward."
