Information minister Mohammad Ali Durrani on Sunday said President General Pervez Musharraf enjoys full support of the masses and together they will defeat supporters of extremism and terrorism in the upcoming general elections.
In an interview, the minister strongly rejected rigging charges by certain quarters about the upcoming elections and said those elements are crying hoarse, who have realised their defeat which is clearly written on the wall.
He said the government time and again invited the opposition to help it in formulation of necessary steps, including code of conduct, for holding free and transparent elections.
"But they are harping the same tune continuously by levelling false allegations," he said, adding "but they will fail to side track the people.
Referring to Dargai incident the minister said, the government is not ignoring the possibility of foreign elements' involvement in the tragic incident.
"To check such incidents in future, the government is mustering support from patriotic political forces and an awareness drive in this connection is being launched for the public," the minister said.
He also brushed aside a report by a foreign media service about Bajaur action and said the government took the action after gathering complete evidences.
The minister said people were getting terrorist training there and their ages were well above twenty years and it has been proved from Dargai incident.
Durrani said, after taking the responsibility of running the country President Pervez Musharraf promised to give provincial autonomy to provinces.
The present government, he said, is working on the same agenda and a special sub-committee under Senator Wasim Sajjad had been constituted.
The minister said the committee has done a lot of homework and was in the position to give final shape to suggestions when the opposition boycotted the session.
The minister expressed his dismay over opposition's boycott from the parliamentary committee meeting on provincial autonomy.
He said: "People are closely watching opposition's moves which are directed towards nothing but to erect hurdles in the way of constructive measures."
The minister dispelled the impression that grant of wider provincial autonomy will undermine the national solidarity and integrity.
