London white sugar futures closed firmer on Tuesday, with the market focused on expiry of the front-month December contract on Wednesday and traders anticipating a large delivery against the expiry, traders said.
December settled up $3.40 at $419.40 per tonne in volume of 5,465 lots, after trading from $419.50 to $414.00. March finished up $1.50 at $370.50 per tonne in volume of 2,256 lots, having moved from $372.00 to $367.60.
COFFEE EASIER: London robusta coffee futures finished slightly lower on Tuesday as the market digested an impressive run-up over the past month that pushed up prices by nearly 16 percent. Benchmark January futures closed $12 weaker at $1,572 a tonne, having moved in a near $30 range. Last Thursday, prices sped to a peak of $1,653 - the highest level for a second month on a continuation basis in 7-1/2 years. Front-month November, due to expire in a couple of weeks, closed at $1,551 a tonne from $1,563 the previous day. March robustas lost $9 to $1,579.
COCOA WEAKENS: London cocoa futures closed weaker on Tuesday weighed by the New York market before first notice day on Wednesday, traders said. December settled down seven pounds at 836 pounds in volume of 3,295 lots, after trading from 846 to 835 pounds. March finished down seven pounds to 855 pounds in volume of 2,016 lots, having moved from 867 to 853 pounds.
