The second phase of education reforms has commenced in the Punjab province, and this Rs 6 billion programme, apart from ensuring amenities at colleges, will include appointment of 4,000 more lecturers by June 2007.
This was observed by Punjab Management and Professional Development Minister Hassan Akhtar Mokal at a function at the Kasur Press Club. He said the first phase encompassed provision of necessary facilities in schools across the province, while the second phase includes providing facilities in colleges.
He said the government is aware that all national reforms like literacy, poverty alleviation, employment opportunities and economic uplift stem from education, and is thus avidly pursuing its education reforms programme.
To a query, he said that with the elections drawing near, the Opposition parties through negative politics are trying to divert public attention from the progress achieved in various national sectors by the present government. "However, the masses will reject them yet again as they have nothing positive to offer," he asserted.
