Ejaz Rehmani is a well known and acknowledged poet, who through his work, spread over at least five decades, has made his mark by writing Ghazals, Nazms, Qata'at and is known especially for his religious poetry, like Hamd, Na'at, Salam, Munqabat and religious Qasa'id, etc.
He has authored ten books previously, including four collections of Na'at namely ("Ejaz-E-Mustafa, Pehli Kiran Aakhri Roshni, Afkaar Ki Khushboo and Khushboo Ka Safar") and the book under review is the eleventh one. Some more collections are expected.
He is not only a religious poet but also a religious person and likes to perform his religious duties and he is very much genuine in this role, as he is in his creativity. His attachment to religion has been quite phenomenal throughout his career.
He has also been awarded many times for his creative work. His diction reflects his abilities and experiences. He is no doubt a God gifted poet with a lot of potential and skill in the art of poetry, and also has an edge in humming his poetry, which has the power to fascinate people in a way that is almost hypnotic. It in fact, makes him one of the leading poets in Na'atia poetry in the modern era.
As has been the fate of most writers and artists in the third world countries, Ejaz could also not make a living out of his writings and skills, and had to work hard for his living during most of his working life.
He portraits Seerat in his Na'ats as an ideal example, to lead our lives as directed by Allah. Ejaz's strong faith in the fundamental ideas of Islam, but not the fundamentalism, leads him to have a general consciousness to enhance peoples' lives. He at times seems to teach and preach to enforce Shariah and Sunnah, to rectify society.
Khawaja Razi Haider, who made some analytical comments on Ejaz's poetry, may help us to understand well his capability of portraying Sunnah, as reading "Sha'oor-re Hus-saan Ki Na'atia Shai'iri", a real reflection of his work. He also quoted, that Na'at is a fundamental element in Urdu poetry, and almost all the Urdu poets composed Na'at in their times. For example, Ameer Menai, Mohsin Kakorwi, Maulana Ahmed Raza Khan, Haji Imdad ullah Muhajir Mucci, Hafiz Khaliluddin Hassan, Hafiz Pellibheti and Ahsan Raza Khan.
The tradition is still continuing in modern poetry. Even today Naats are recited recitation of Holy Quran.
