Total 163 cases have been filed against Karachi Large Taxpayer Unit (LTU) during July-October (2006-07), involving an amount of Rs 4,100 million.
A presentation shows that LTU, Karachi, is in the process of liquidating 12 cases, involving Rs 246 million, at the level of Supreme Court of Pakistan; 73 cases involving Rs 1,317 million are in High Courts, and 163 cases, involving Rs 2,537 million are pending at the level of Appellate Tribunal.
The data shows that 25 major corporate entities/companies have approached the LTU for appointing committees under Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism for settlement of their cases, involving Rs 1,543 million. The CBR has issued orders for ADR in six cases involving Rs 229 million under section 47-A of the Sales Tax Act.
The ADR committees have so far concluded meetings in 10 cases involving Rs 1038 million. Nine cases involving Rs 276 million are yet to be settled by ADR committees. The data further shows that the LTU has yet to dispose of 23 adjudication cases, involving Rs 859.942 million.
As on October 1 2006, adjudication authorities have received 19 cases, involving Rs 759.482 million. During this month, four more cases, involving Rs 93.460, were added for adjudication. The aggregate amount involved in the adjudication process is Rs 1712.884 million, according to the data.
