The owners of new and old vehicles would be returned their original registration files within 15 days. This was stated by Sindh Minister for Excise and Taxation Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani while talking to newsmen after a departmental meeting here Saturday.
He said it is an era of Information Technology and, therefore, all records of Excise and Taxation department are being computerised phase-wise which would help reduce corruption and complaints about misplacement of files from record room will end.
Shabbir Ahmed Qaimkhani said that vehicle owners would be issued new number plates. These would be camera readable which will help in immediately identifying vehicles stolen or involved in crimes. He said this would bring reduction in theft of vehicles cases.
The minister said that four different schemes of record computerisation would soon be implemented at a cost of Rs 25 million. This includes development of system for recovery of infrastructure cess and professional tax at a cost of Rs 5 million, streamlining the motor vehicle tax and registration system on modern lines costing Rs 5 million while Rs 10 million will be spent on computerisation of receipts of Excise duty, hotel tax and excise duty on liquor.
Qaimkhani said that property tax would be computerised which would facilitate the people in the payment of tax.
He said that directive has been issued for ensuring compliance of timings of opening and closing of liquor shops and sale of liquor only to non-Muslims, or else legal action will be taken.
The minister said that a policy will soon be formulated in consultation with inter-provincial co-ordination to check transfer of stolen vehicles to other provinces and for return of recovered ones.
