The United Nations has approved the 'clean development mechanism' (CDM) project in Pakistan for a neat and clean environment, and the CDM would be established at Pakarab Fertilisers Limited, it is learnt.
The United Nations has approved the project with collaboration of Mitsubishi Corporation Japan and PFL at a cost of $15 million. The CDM project aims to reduce global warming by treating industrial emissions. It shall abate nitrous oxide gas at PFL nitric acid plant in accordance with Kyoto Protocol, a global treaty for UN framework convention on climate change. Overall, this project would have positive effect of environment, as nitrous oxide would be converted to nitrogen and oxygen by catalytical reduction, before venting into atmosphere.
