Thar Express train service between India and Pakistan, suspended since August 24 due to flash floods in Rajasthan, might not be resumed for at least two more months, Indian media reported, quoting North-Western Railway (NWR) officials.
According to NWR Chief Public Relations Officer S B Gandhi, a team, which visited Kewas in Barmer district hit by flash floods on August 21-22, found that the village and its railway station, connecting Jodhpur-Barmer-Munabao to zero point station in Pakistan, was still submerged in four to five feet water.
"We are waiting for the water to be siphoned off to begin repair of tracks and other systems at the railway station," Gandhi said.
Another team would visit the Kewas area in the last week of December to analyse the situation. It would then be possible to ascertain by when the rail service between India and Pakistan on this route would be resumed, he added.
