More than 6000 students visited the British Council's Education UK exhibition here on Wednesday; which featured representatives of as many as 57 universities from leading academic institutions in the UK.
British Council Director Iftikhar Elahi disclosed this while addressing a press conference, here on Wednesday. He was accompanied by Ms Delia Henehgan from Northampton University and Ms Rhian Thomson from Cardiff University.
"At the exhibition the representatives of British universities provided course and institutional information to students. This is the first time in five years that the British Council has taken the lead in organising an education exhibition from students in Pakistan. This particular exhibition was focused on providing information to students interested in pursuing undergraduate studies in the United Kingdom," he added.
According to him, the exhibition involved university representatives providing one-on-one counselling and information sessions for students on study options in the UK. Several seminars were held throughout the day on key elements of the undergraduate application process, including advice on writing a personal statement, choosing A-level subjects, selecting the right undergraduate course and applying through the University and College Admission Service, popularly known as UCAS.
It was also said in the press conference that every year, an increasing number of students are choosing the UK as a preferred destination for further education. Last year, more than 5,600 Pakistani students travelled to the UK on student visas and in 2006 a figure that is expected to rise. The UK is known to offer high quality, internationally recognised qualifications for international students and provides a welcoming multicultural environment, particularly for international students.
