The National Assembly has passed Protection of Women (Criminal Laws Amendment) Bill which according to Ulema, is repugnant to Islamic laws on the subject. The ruling parties claim it to be in conformity with Islam.
In the circumstance would it not be proper for the President of Pakistan to refer the Bill to the Supreme Court of Pakistan to review it and to give its verdict whether the legislation is in accordance with the laws of Islam.
As it was done by him in the case of Hasba Bill which was passed by the Provincial Assembly of NWFP. The verdict of the apex court will remove the misgivings raised in passing the Bill which has divided the nation.
