Egypt's main government wheat buyer said on Wednesday it had bought 180,000 tonnes of US and French wheat for shipment from December 21-31. Said el-Hefny, vice chairman of the General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC), gave the following breakdown of the purchases (all prices FOB).
60,000 tonnes of US soft red winter wheat from Toepfer at $193.50/tonne. - 60,000 tonnes of French milling wheat from Invivo at $203.58/tonne. - 60,000 tonnes of French milling wheat from Bunge at $203.58/tonne.
Egypt is one of the world's leading wheat importers. The deals bring Egypt's total international purchases for the year to 2.2 million tonnes, including one million tonnes from the United States, 460,000 tonnes from Canada, 390,000 from Russia and 360,000 tonnes from France.
