Mills' non-stop buying following the apprehensions of short supplies pushed the rates higher on the cotton market on Thursday, dealers said.
The Karachi Cotton Association (KCA) official spot rate was unchanged at Rs 2425, without upcountry expenses. The Phutti prices in Sindh were at Rs 1150-1250 and in the Punjab it was available at Rs 1175-1275, dealers said.
In the ready business, several thousand bales of cotton changed hands at Rs 2500 following the news that the country might import cotton to meet the export commitments and local demand, leading brokers said.
According to a report, to meet the export requirements, the country may import two million bales of cotton during the current season. The pace of arrival of phutti so far, is indicating that the crop size might be around 12.5 million bales as there is some improvement in the crop size in Punjab and in Sindh the production is not sufficient, they said.
