Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabita Committee Deputy Convenor, Dr Farooq Sattar has said that the MQM will continue its struggle against the feudal lords and tribal chieftains, who are exploiting the people and usurping their basic rights particularly in Southern Punjab and Sindh.
Addressing Muzaffargarh District Bar members on Friday, he asked all the political parties to evolve a consensus on the issue of the uniform of President Pervez Musharraf for the sake of democracy and political future of the country and stopping the military intervention permanently.
He said the 'charter of democracy' (CoD) had showed only the transfer of power from the military dictatorship to civilians, but it had not indicated the mechanism for its transfer.
He said, MQM chief Altaf Hussain had already asked the opposition parties to set aside power politics and work at the grassroots level to strengthen themselves for a revolution, but not a single party was ready to leave the path of power politics.
He said the society needed a curative treatment to bring democracy on a right track and the MQM would have to prove as a vital force in leading the movement of the change of system instead of replacing the faces.
He said there was a dire need to eliminate feudal system from the society by introducing land reforms to end the centralisation and give maximum autonomy to the provinces, as strong centre could not provide a base for a strong country.
Farooq said the MQM had a clear viewpoint on the Kalabagh dam, which should be constructed after developing a national consensus acceptable to all the stakeholders.
He said the MQM had asked the government for its representation in the Privatisation Commission after the Supreme Court's action on privatisation of the Steal Mills. He said the MQM had fully participated in the PTCL privatisation and stopped the privatisation of UBL for better bids.
