A sum of Rs 125.203 billion will be spent on the reconstruction and rehabilitation of quake survived people in Azad Kashmir. This was stated by Serra Director General Sardar Muhammad Siddique Khan here while briefing the Nepa delegation, which was on a study tour of Muzaffarabad.
Sardar Muhammad Siddique Khan told the delegation that some 700-kilometre area of Azad Jammu and Kashmir was severely affected by the devastated earthquake of October 8 last year, adding that according to statistics, some 1.8 million people were displaced whereas 46,528 people were killed while 33,489 people wounded.
He said that the earthquake destroyed about 52 percent infrastructure of liberated territory, saying that the loss of assets in civil sector was estimated at Rs 60.875 billion while in public sector, it was estimated at Rs 64.32 billion.
Giving details the Serra chief said that some 810-kilometre roads, 1809 link roads, 2775-metre long bridges, 806 government residential quarters and 18 bridges in rural areas were severely damaged.
He said that some 1,630 water supply projects were being reconstructed and repaired, saying that some 52 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) were working and assisting the government of Azad Kashmir in reconstruction and rehabilitation of quake affected people. He said that the AJK government was also giving cash grant to the quake-affected families and Rs 1.683 billion were being distributed on monthly basis.
The Serra chief also briefed the Nepa delegation about the sponsorship projects, which are being completed under the supervision of international organisations and institutions, adding that all the education institutions and health centres were functional while complete health facilities were being provided to the masses in the hospitals.
