City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal has said City District Government Karachi (CDGK) had evolved a plan to impose ban on the establishing of Bachat Bazaars at the play grounds within one year.
He also informed that five more cricket stadiums of international standards to be constructed in the metropolis to promote sports culture. This he said during the inaugural ceremony of a cricket tournament at the Asghar Ali Shah Stadium on Sunday night in north Nazimabad area.
EDO Community Development Rehana Saif, President Karachi City Cricket Association (KCCA) Muhammad Ali Shah, Secretary KCCA Sirajul Islam Bukhari, DO Culture Nargis Shagufta, several other CDGK officials were present.
He said in the first phase, CDGK had taken steps to drive out the bachat bazaars established in five playgrounds in the metropolis and five cricket stadiums would be constructed on which work had been started. He also announced a selection committee board for cricket to form a cricket team on the city government level.
He said the board comprising of national cricketers and renowned personalities to select the cricket team based on talented youth, which would finally lead the CDGK team. "All those players will lead the CDGK cricket team to be appointed as a CDGK employees," he added.
Mustafa regretted over the suspension of mayor cup which had been initiated by the former Mayor Farooq Sattar around 14 years back, he said like other such development projects it was also cancelled to have been aimed at providing better sports infrastructure and technical assistance to youth.
"The incumbent CDGK has resumed the mayor cup cricket tournament after 14 years suspension to be held every year through a mechanism, which will ensure its continuation on a regular basis," he vowed.
