Punjab Transport department has directed bus owners to improve condition of vehicles to facilitate passengers and control pollution by December 31 or else face cancellation of route permits. Provincial Transport Minister Rana Shamshad Ahmed Khan issued these instructions during a meeting with bus owners here on Monday.
He said that smoke emitting vehicles, overcharging, unfit buses having broken window panes and bus crew without uniform are common complaints against them, adding that transporters need to redress these problems within the given period.
Government has provided maximum incentives to the urban bus system for improved transport facilities in the cities but some of them failed to achieve the required standard, he said. The meeting was assured that government was aware of genuine issues of bus companies which would be redressed.
