FIFA on Tuesday lauded the removal of two top officials from the suspended Kenya Football Federation (KFF) as a step in the right direction to bring the country back into world soccer.
At the same time, FIFA hailed a decision by a Kenyan court to quash the government's dissolution of the KFF, which football's world governing body had protested as unwarranted interference that violated its regulations.
These steps "constitute a strong base for a discussion on the return of the KFF to the world football fraternity," Jerome Champagne, FIFA President Sepp Blatter's special delegate, said in a letter to the federation.
Kenyan football has been wracked by controversy and chaos for months and hit a low point on October 24 when FIFA indefinitely suspended the country from international play, citing its failure to implement key reforms.
