Reacting to the statement of PPP leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim that the elections could be acceptable under President General Pervaiz Musharraf, Pakistan Muslim League (N) on Wednesday reiterated that the polls could not be fair, free and transparent under a military dictator.
In a statement issued here on Wednesday, PML Secretary Information Ahsan Iqbal said: "PML is of the firm view that there isn't even an iota of doubt that the election under General Musharraf can be fair, free and transparent."
He argued that the local bodies elections 2001, Presidential Referendum 2002, general elections 2002, and local bodies elections 2005 were a clear evidence of the military government's fairness and transparency.
The manner in which General Musharraf had started patronising the ruling Pakistan Muslim League by attending party meetings in uniform, making open appeals to public, and diverting all state resources towards its election campaign, there shouldn't be any doubt in anyone's mind about his future plans, he added. The PML leader contended: "Even if a caretaker government is formed under Musharraf, its role will not be any different from that of Shaukat Aziz Cabinet."
