President FPCCI Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed has asked Pakistan's Ambassador-designate to Brazil Muhammad Haroon Shaukat to identify core areas of trade and industrial collaboration between the two countries.
He said that Brazil with population of 184.2 million and GDP of $966.6 billion offered huge potential for trade and joint venture collaboration but Pakistan's exports to that country amounted to only $9.029 million and imports to $145.7 million in 2004.05.
Shaukat who held a meeting with President, FPCCI in Federation House was also requested to identify non-tariff barriers in trade with Brazil. President FPCCI said that both the Government and the business community generally ignored Brazil as being a far off country but the credit went to President Pervez Musharraf that his visit to Brazil created interest among the government and business circles.
Haroon Shaukat said that Brazil was very advanced in aviation, nuclear energy and alternative energy and it would be his endeavour that Pakistan benefit from the technologies developed by Brazil.
He said that the Commercial section in Pakistan Embassy in Brazil has been revived and he would ensure that it met the requirements of the business community of Pakistan. He would also look into the possibility of bilateral trade arrangement between the two countries. Akbar Abdullah, Vice-President and Dr Mushtaq Noorwala, Member, Managing Committee also attended the meeting.
