USAID Director for Economic Growth Amy Meyer attended a jewellery workshop held at the premises of a leading jeweller, here on Wednesday. She was accompanied by Susan Fine, USAID director office of strategic planning & operations, bureau for Asia and the Near East.
The two-week-long workshop is being conducted by Werner Assmann, an International Jewellery Manufacturing expert from Germany. The workshop has been organised by Ruby Jewellers and the Pakistan Gemstone & Jewellery Development Company in collaboration with the USAID-funded Pakistan Initiative for Strategic Development and Competitiveness (PISDAC) project, managed by J E Austin Associates, Inc and the Small & Medium Enterprise Development Authority (Smeda).
The purpose of the workshop is to form and train a pool of 12 master trainers who will then go on to impart the expertise gained to other craftsmen. This will enable the jewellery-manufacturing sector to become familiar with the latest techniques in manufacturing. The master trainers will be utilised by the sector in Common Facility Training & Manufacturing Center(s) (CFTMC).
Muttiullah Sheikh, chairman of the Pakistan Gemstone & Jewellery Development Company said he was thrilled by the response the workshop had received and praised the efforts of the local jewellers in making the event a success.
