Federal Minister for Textile Industry Mushtaq Ali Cheema has said that the government is considering more incentives for textile industries as the country is facing hard competition in the global market.
Talking to the Ambassador of Japan Siji Kogima, who called on him on Thursday to discuss the matter of textile export to Japan, the minister told the ambassador that government was working for upgradation of textile sector of the country and in this regard various steps, including training of raw workers of textile sector, had been taken.
Cheema said the duty on import of raw material had also been reduced up to 5 percent. "Now the duty rate is from zero percent to 5 percent. Sales tax has also been abolished from export oriented textile industries," he added.
The minister said export rate of Japan had been reduced presently which was not tolerable the textile sectors should work on export of textile products to Japan. He said Pakistan was interested in import of modern textile technology from Japan and other countries where price would be affordable and competitive.
Japan ambassador thanked the minister and said Japan was interested in import of Pakistan textile products for which textile sector should cooperate. He offered the supply of modern textile machines from Japan on competitive prices.
