High Court of Sindh on Friday ordered as interim measure that all inter-city vehicles whose terminals have already been constructed outside the municipal limits will not enter the main city and park their vehicles in their terminals.
In this respect, appropriate directives would be issued by concerned authority and to be enforced by Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Police, the bench ordered.
The Division Bench consisting of Chief Justice Sabihuddin Ahmed and Justice Faisal Arab was hearing a constitutional petition moved by Islam Hussain.
The Court has also directed to constitute a committee having AG Sindh, Secretary Transport Department, DIG Traffic and representation of other concerned authorities and parties in the case to present proposals in the matter up to January 1, 2007.
AG Anwer Mansoor also filed a report from Provincial Transport Department stating that the ban on 2-stroke rickshaw was imposed in pursuance of orders by Chief Minister issued on June 30, while the same will be replaced with four-stroke ones by the June 2007. After the date no two-stroke rickshaw will be allowed to ply in the province. City District Government Karachi (CDGK), Sindh Government, DIG Traffic, All Bus Owners Association, All Karachi Rickshaw Dealers (AKRD) and Shaheen Auto Rickshaw (SAR) are cited as respondents.
Advocate General Sindh, Anwer Mansoor Khan along with Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Traffic, Falak Khursheed appeared for state, Advocate Manzoor Ahmed represented the CDGK while Advocate Ilyas Khan also appeared for other respondents.
