The book, Beyond Honour--A Historical Materialist Explanation of Honour Related Violence', written by Tahira S Khan and published by Oxford University Press, Pakistan, has been awarded the Akhtar Hameed Khan Memorial Award for 2006.
The award, established by the Council of Social Sciences, Pakistan (COSS), is given to the best book written during the year in the fields of rural/urban development, gender discrimination, peace, and poverty and its alleviation. 'Beyond Honour' was selected out of a total of nine books submitted by different publishers to the Council for this year's award.
'Beyond Honour', which was launched in Karachi in September this year, is a highly topical book given the present debates over women's issues occupying centre stage in the parliament and on the media.
