On the intervention of Punjab Ombudsman, Abdur Rashid Khan, scholarship was given to a girl student, earlier denied on the basis that she had not secured 55 percent marks in Intermediate examination.
According to official sources, Ghulam Muhammad filed a complaint with Ombudsman Secretariat that his daughter Farhat Batool applied for Provincial Benevolent Fund Board scholarship for the year 2001-02. The application was forwarded to DCO Jhang for necessary action in accordance with the law. He contended that DCO Jhang failed to take necessary action in the matter, in the result the complaint did not receive the scholarship.
The Punjab Ombudsman observed that as per notification, dated June 7, 2002 issued by Punjab Services & General Administration Department, the condition of availing scholarship from Benevolent Fund to secure 55 percent marks was relaxed, declaring children of government servants securing 50 percent marks could be entitled to the scholarship.
DCO Jhang has now informed Mohtasib Secretariat that the payment of scholarship amounting to Rs 14,000, had been made to the complainant's daughter, as per directions of the Ombudsman.
