The long-awaited Women University Multan project, presently undergoing some teething problems, is expected to start with 14 departments initially.
Education Department sources told newsmen here on Friday that those disciplines included Physics, Chemistry, Statistics, Botany, Zoology, Human Resource Management, Applied Psychology, Computer Science, English, Urdu, Pakistan Studies, Economics, Education and Business Administration.
Sources said that 27 acres land had been allotted for the university at the Mutti Tul road, and requisition for transfer of the land had been submitted to the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) through the secretary education, Punjab.
The project, estimated to cost around Rs one billion, would be executed through the Higher Education Commission (HEC) after final approval by the economic coordination committee of the cabinet headed by the Prime Minister.
The Women University was promised for Multan by President Pervez Musharraf during his public meeting, held here in February 2005, to facilitate girl students of the entire South Punjab region. The project is being looked after by DCO Iftikhar Babar, who is also the project director.
Originally prepared on the model of Sargodha University at a cost of Rs 719 million, it was modified with some additions in the PC-1 by Punjab government planning department, said sources.
The university will have three academic blocks with covered area of 25,400 square feet each. The building will have three storeys extendable to six. Teaching staff for each department will have a professor, two associate professors, three assistant professors and four lecturers.
