The three-day annual cardiac conference concluded at Convention Centre in Islamabad on Sunday. Chairman Higher Education Commission, Dr Atta-ur-Rehman, who was the chief guest on the occasion, underlined the need for improving the standard of educational institutions in the country for the national and socio-economic development of the country.
He said due to the collapse of education sector in the last four decades, science and technology base besides manufacturing of high value products is non-existence in Pakistan. He, however, expressed the satisfaction that a silent revolution is unfolding in the education sector in the wake of steps taken by the present government.
Enumerating the steps taken by the government, he said the government is in the process of setting up nine new science and engineering universities with the collaboration of foreign countries at various places.
He said, "We are providing an enabling environment to the students where they have access to hundreds of thousands of international journals, which was not possible in the era of previous governments". He said the present process of reforms should continue for bringing the Universities amongst the top ranking universities of the world.
He also called upon institutions providing higher level education to aim at research oriented work, which will ultimately enhance their ranking level.
Earlier, Dr Atta-ur-Rehman gave away cash awards and shields to doctors and under and post graduate students for writing best papers and abstracts on cardiovascular diseases.
