Paktel Franchise & Subscribers Association (PFSA) has appealed to President Pervez Musharraf and Chairman of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to save two million subscribers and franchisers who had invested billions of rupees and take immediate action against the company which put them in trouble.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday association's office-bearers Muhammad Naeem Jatt, Malik Khalil Aaheer, Izzat Tanveer, Khawaja Aatif and Muhammad Faisal Iqbal said that Paktel was winding up its business in Pakistan even it refused to renew its licence leaving 2 million people stranded. They said that franchises had deposited Rs 0.2 million as security and invested Rs 2.5 million as per company rules besides construction of the building with an estimated cost of Rs 0.8 million to Rs one million.
They said that Paktel is a pioneer company, which had earned a huge profit in the decade of 1990 when it was also charging for call receiving. They alleged that they had been receiving complaints of dropping of their balance to zero level from Rs 1000 and non-access to other networks. They also complained that duplicate SIMs are not being issued to those subscribers whose mobile phones lost while already issued number to franchise are being resold.
