Swiss technology group Oerlikon bought the main assets of UK laser specialist Exitech for less than 10 million Swiss francs ($8.4 million) as it presses ahead with an aggressive acquisition strategy.
Oerlikon said the deal, which includes laser technology, around 50 employees and other equipment of Exitech, would boost Oerlikon's optics, solar and wafer processing units. The assets bought from Exitech, which is under administration, would be integrated into the optics division, the group said in a statement on Tuesday.
Oerlikon, which said on Monday its 2 billion-franc take-over bid for car parts maker group Saurer was a success and that it now controlled an 89 percent stake in the firm, says it plans more acquisitions.
Oerlikon, a global leader in thin film coating and in vacuum and precision technologies, said in October it had the financial resources to buy more companies, as 80 percent of the Saurer deal was financed through debt.
