National Assembly Standing Committee on Commerce on Wednesday was informed that Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) would be a pro-active institution, working for the development and promotion of export to yield maximum benefits.
The committee met in the Parliament House with Iqbal Muhammad Ali Khan, MNA in the chair to discuss the promulgation of ordinance on TDAP and formation and constitution of the Board of Governors of Pakistan School of Fashion and Design, Lahore.
The committee was told that TDAP would be an autonomous body functioning independently both in its administrative and financial matters. The chairman TDAP said that 10 persons from private sectors have been inducted in its board of directors in addition to senior government officers. The committee recommended that two members of the Parliament be included in EXPO Steering Committee.
A member of the committee told Business Recorder that the committee asked Fashion School administration to produce entire records of the school in the next meeting (being held on December 18) containing details of employees' qualification, experience and mode of recruitment.
The committee could not take up the agenda regarding Ideas-2006 due to lack of attendance of the members. The committee was informed that Pakistan School of Fashion and Design Lahore would work under the Ministry of Commerce but would be regulated through Higher Education Commission.
The committee expressed dissatisfaction over the formation of Board of Governors of Pakistan School of Fashion and Design and recommended that two members of the Parliament also be included in the school's board of governors. The meeting was attended by MNAs Tahira Asif, Afsar Begum, Rana Tariq Javaid, Farhan Latif, Kashmala Tariq, and Muhammad Hanif Abbasi and officials of the Commerce Ministry.
